every sixty seconds...

When I was in college I spent 4 months living in Mukono, Uganda. I was with 30 other students from the US and we studied at a local university and traveled around the country. I learned about plenty of injustices and issues that needed passionate people, but I never learned about anything that got me fired up. I was surrounded by amazing people who were doing great things (and still are) and I was amazed at their passion and love for what they were doing. For the past 5 years I have been praying for God to give me a passion. I wanted something that would get me out of bed in the morning, that would get me fired up, and that I had no choice but to do something about. There are plenty of things to be passionate about, but nothing ever 'hit home' so to speak.

Last year I heard a speaker who talked about sex trafficking. Present day slavery is a huge issue around the world and human trafficking has been slowly increasing, without much notice. I sat in my chair completely dumbfounded. I had no idea that this still happened. I knew there were still brothels and prostitutes in parts of the world, and even in the US, but I figured they were there willingly. Ignorant, I know.

Over the past year this issue keeps coming up and it is something I can't stop thinking about. The more I read about it, the more passionate I become. I have been re-searching different companies that are working to fight sex trafficking and looking into internship and fellowship options. Here goes nothing.

every sixty seconds...2 girls are sold into slavery.
