{Not For Sale} Store Re-design

One of my projects for the Not For Sale Fellowship was to re-design our store in Half Moon Bay. I spent a few days reading tons of design blogs and looking for ideas on Pinterest. A special thank you to Heather from Nintendo for all of her ideas, Sam for making countless trips to thrift stores and Home Depot with me, and David for your mad carpentry skills.

To fully appreciate everything we did, you need to see what the store looked like

There was an office dividing wall that separated the store from the office.

Most of the jewelry was displayed on a small table.

A table along the left wall had sale and clearance items.

A tiered shelf by the window displayed all of the shoes.

Our 31bits jewelry was displayed on a shelf.

After 3 weeks and lots of work afternoons with Sam and our neighbor David, we're finished!

We painted the wall orange and installed shelves with hooks to hang up shirts, bags, and scarves.

Using wooden pallets we got for free, we built a new dividing wall to separate the store from the office.

We moved 2 of the bookshelves onto the other wall and displayed bags, books, and chocolate.

We had wooden pallets left over from the wall, so I purchased a wine barrel from a winery down the street and we built a table to display all of the jewelry.

All of the jewelry is now displayed in the center of the store.

A thrift store candlestick is the perfect place for bracelets.

 The last pallet was put over an existing table to have a display by the window. Who knew you could do so much with old wooden pallets?

Using bookshelf brackets from Ikea, we made bookshelves from actual books and journals.

I wrapped twine around a picture frame that I picked up at a thrift store and painted the inside with chalkboard paint. Now we have somewhere to write deals and upcoming events.

People often walk in having never heard of modern day slavery. I created 2 posters with a very general overview of human trafficking and Not For Sale to help with some of the questions.

Chicken wire stapled to the back of a frame is the perfect place to hang hats.



Using scrap wood, I cut out a few silhouettes of countries where Not For Sale is working and added a frame with info about that country. Now when people come in to shop they know the story behind the products they are purchasing.

An old rake was turned upside down and used to display necklaces.

Finally we displayed items in the window so people would want to come in and see the new store.
