before and after: kitchen

One of my goals when moving into this house was to make it feel like a home. The house is mainly used for temporary housing for girls coming out of His Mansion Ministries recovery program. It is a place they can live while looking for a job and a more permanent place. While they will not be living here very long, it was important to me to make it feel warm and homy.

Over the past 3 months Emily and I have been painting, rearranging, and cleaning. We spent the first month spinning in circles trying to figure out where everything was and what we could get rid of. With no budget and little free time at home, we have had a lot of fun fixing it up.

The kitchen was by far the worst room in the house, and our first priority. Luckily we have friends who can be cohered into spending a Saturday afternoon painting. My aunt Kay also came for a weekend and was a huge help!

Before: The kitchen had been painted a bright yellow. There was no order to anything and a lot of wasted space.

After: We re-painted the kitchen in an bright blue which looked a lot better with all of the white accents. We added shelves for more storage and re-organized the pantry. We found new homes for all the of stuff that had been left out everywhere. Kay brought me some of my grandma's old cookbooks. I cut out pictures of some cute cake ideas and framed them above the stove.
